Canada's Ian Tamblyn, who describes himself as musician/adventurer/playwright, made a rare US appearance at Stony Brook University's The University Cafe on Sunday evening June 10th, 2008.

Canadian songwriters including Lynn Miles, James Keelaghan, and Fred Eaglesmith regularly sing the praises of Ian Tamblyn as one of Canada's national treasures, deserving much more of an audience in the United States.

Since 1971, Tamblyn has released twenty-five albums becoming Canada's first independent recording artist with his North Track label. Although Tamblyn did debut at New York City's The Other End in 1978, his focus has been almost exclusively on the Canadian music circuit where he has played the folk clubs, the coffeehouses, and the major festivals. He also served as a topical songwriter on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporations "Sunday morning" radio program. His songs have been recorded by Sylvia Tyson, James Keelaghan, Tamarack, Lynn Miles and Hart Rouge, among others and they are the subject of a tribute CD, Coastline of our Dreams.

A recent CD, Angel's Share, reflects the range of his travels, with songs associated with
visits to Scotland, Antartica, and of course, Canada from the west coast, to the Arctic Circle, to
his home in Chelsea, Quebec. His new CD, Superior: Spirit and Light , is the first of four projected CD’s of his “Four Coast Project” documenting Tamblyn’s musical journey as it connects with the culture of his homeland.

Tamblyn has also combined his music with his environmental concerns to create a series of recordings combining field recordings of Canadian wilderness sounds with synthesizer, hammered dulcimer, and cello to create an ambient instrumental music bringing him recognition as a "new age" musician.

Information about Ian Tamblyn is available at his website, www.tamblyn.com
