PATCHOGUE JAM 5 features full sets of original music by four fantastic bands including THE ELECTRIX who are making their Patchogue Theatre debut with a set of their own songs, and return performances by local favorites MILES TO DAYTON, THE JAY SCOTT BAND and the KATIE PEARLMAN BAND. March 1-BRIAN UNGER
AND FRIENDS
Patchogue
Village resident Brian Unger's career as a musician started in the late
seventies as guitarist for the band "American Tears" that toured the
States with various 70's megabands such as Peter Frampton and the J.
Geils Band. He also performed in New York theatre as the guitarist for a
blues revival show. In 1981 he joined the band "Industry," was signed to
Capitol Records and toured Europe.
In 1980 his career as a recording
engineer and producer started while touring in Memphis. He purchased
some of the original recording equipment from the old Stax Recording
studio, brought it back to Long Island and built Paris Recording
studios as a vehicle for his own compositions and as an incubator for
the local music scene. By 1999 he upgraded his skills and became a
"Pro Tools" engineer, purchasing one of the first systems in the area.
The system quickly became the most efficient method for music
production, he has been sought after for the editing capabilities
inherent in this new system of recording.
In the 90's he fronted various
original bands while maintaining a full time recording schedule at
various studios in the New York area and formed MaddenRae, an acoustic
duo with singer Shannon Rae. They were nominated in 1997 as best new
band of the year by the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, for their self
titled album "MaddenRae". After several several years of constant
recording and production for other artists Brian began performing
again with Marie DelaCruz and friends, and they are currently playing
her originals at various venues around Long Island.
Brian is currently collaborating with
some of his old musical partners and some new faces on a project that
will encompass new material from his own catalogue along with some of
the best writers and players from the local indie music scene. Brian
and friends will perform this music Live in the Lobby and we are
thrilled that after several years of asking, he put this very special
show together for us.
April 5-Double Bill with DELIGHTS OF NOTHING and GHOSTS
OF ELECTRICITY
This double bill features two great bands from Long Island, each playing
a full set of original music.
The
Ghosts of Electricity are an ever-changing ensemble of musicians
rooted by the foundation of Bill Herman on drums and guitar, Tim
Strohsnitter on bass and Michele Sivori on vocals. They gained their
reputation by doing original interpretations of Dylan songs,
reinventing them just as Dylan does. They have released an EP called
Random Bursts of Noise and are finishing up a new full length
recording of original songs that will be released in spring of 2012 on
Paradiddle records.
Delights of Nothing formed in 2006 and began attracting a following
with their magnetic pop/alternative rock tunes. Their great melodies
and rocking guitar sounds combine with socially/politically aware
lyrics to create music that is catchy, unique and refreshing. Each
song is carefully crafted and meticulously executed with a home-brewed
spin. They have delighted audiences in both the US and the UK as their
songs quickly become favorites among the fans. Signed to New York
based indie label Sweet Spot Records. Delights of Nothing have their
released their debut EP that was recorded here in Patchogue at Suffolk
Recording Studios.
May 3-Double Bill with ALAN SEMERDJIAN BAND and JAMES
B. DUKEHOUSE (featuring Joe Iadanza)
Once again, we are excited to have a
double bill Live in the Lobby - full sets from two great original
groups.
Alan Semerdjian may be the best
singer/songwriter you've never heard of...until now. He has played
over 900 shows in the last dozen years or so, placed his music in tv
and film and earned the respect of lots of critics and fans along the
way. His latest collection of songs titled "The Big Beauty" (produced
by Mike Bloom of Rilo Kiley and The Elected) features an incredible
bunch of musicians, friends, and special guests who come together to
create a sweet kind of semipop indiefolk acoustic rock music. Though
his most commercially-accessible work to date, The Big Beauty retains
the gutsy inventiveness and integrity that make Alan Semerdjian one of
New York's most unique and interesting voices.
Made
up of internationally-touring singer/songwriter Joe Iadanza
(vocals/guitars), bassist Craig Akin and drummer Christian Coleman,
James B. Dukehouse is a thumpin' three-piece rock, roots and blues
band from New York with songs about (among other things) wrecking
balls and how the devil is always trying to steal away their women.
"Go to Wikipedia and hit 'random article'. The first random Wikipedia
article you get is the name of your band." Yup. That's really how they
got the name. The rest of it has to do with folkies, NERFA, Brooklyn,
cruise ships, Kansas City, open tunings, cold cuts, Patchogue Jam 4, a
pickup truck, and a 150-year-old bull fiddle. But, don't get all
caught up in that. Just enjoy the show. They'll tell you all about it.

Sunday Street Acoustic Series at the University cafe in Stony Brook
Vance Gilbert (with Marci Geller opening)
Sunday, February 12th at 2 P.M.
Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the
early 90's when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston
about an ex-multicultural arts teacher who was knocking 'em dead at open
mics. Shawn Colvin invited Gilbert to be a special guest on her Fat
City tour. Gilbert took audiences across the country by storm. "With the
voice of an angel, the wit of a devil, and the guitar playing of a god,
it was enough to earn him that rarity: an encore for an opener" wrote
the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in its review of a show from that tour.
Following several solo albums, Gilbert recorded. Side Of The Road
(2003), a duo album with Ellis Paul. His subsequent album releases
include a collection of inspired covers by artists ranging from Joni
Mitchell to Al Green, as well as several albums of original songs.
Gilbert toured for a year and a half as the opening
performer for George Carlin, an inspired choice given Gilbert's unique
ability to combine comedy and music. His latest release, Old White Men,
find him in fine form with a collection of great original Vance Gilbert
songs. (www.VanceGilbert.com)
Opening for Vance Gilbert is Marci Geller. Marci Geller is a
singing, songwriting powerhouse. Her history includes performances on
"Live with Regis", "Good Day NY, " "Fox Morning Show" and "Better CT."
In 2010 she was chosen by Independent Songwriters Magazine (ISWM) as the
"Editor's Choice" as one of their favorite songwriters of the last
decade.

Lucy Kaplansky
Sunday, February 19th at 2 P.M.
Originally from Chicago, Lucy Kaplanksy moved to New York
City where she became involved in the acoustic music scene in Greenwich
Village, collaborating with Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin and Richard
Shindell. Detouring from music to earn her degree in clinical
Psychology, she returned to music with her 1994 release, The Tide.
In 1998 Kaplansky joined with Dar Williams and Richard
Shindell to form the folk group Cry Cry Cry, which recorded an album and
toured at length before going their separate ways. Her Ten Year Night
album in 1999 won rave reviews and boosted her popularity, leading to
performances on CBS-TV. Her album, The Red Thread included the
well-known, "Land of The Living," a song about her experience of being a
New Yorker on 9-11.
Her most recent solo release is 2007's Over The Hills, and
she has also joined with John Gorka and Eliza Gilkyson in the trio, Red
Horse.

Brother Sun (Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway, and Joe Jencks)
Sunday, March 4th at 2 P.M.
Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway, and Joe Jencks have formed a
dynamic new male trio. Their harmonies, as much as their lyrics, tell
what they are about: warm as a campfire, stirring as a gospel church,
rousing as a call to arms. Calling upon contemporary songwriting, and
informed by the deep roots of gospel, blues, and folk, the trio weaves a
tapestry of harmony that is brilliantly fresh and yet familiar.
Nationally touring folk artists from three major points on
the map - Boston, New York, and Chicago - Pat, Greg, and Joe celebrate
the amazing power of singing together. Their combined musical skills
should make for an unforgettable evening - three rich voices blending on
a well-crafted foundation of guitar, slide guitar, and piano.

James Maddock
Sunday, March 11th at 2 P.M.
With the release of Wake Up and Dream, James Maddock
firmly establishes himself as one of the truly gifted performing
songwriters on the American landscape. As a transplanted Briton rooted
on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Maddock effortlessly translates the
aspirations and longing of his ever growing legion of followers into
song. His 2010 NY Music Award for best Americana Album for Sunrise On
Avenue C is long overdue corroboration of the fact.
First recognized in the U.S as the front-man for the band
Wood (Songs From Stamford Hill), Maddock has steadily gained traction in
the Northeast U.S. with his infectious live performances and accessible
touch with his fans. A top 50 chart position at non-commercial radio in
2010 for Sunrise on Avenue C preceeds the break through to a mainstream
audience which Maddock has made with Wake Up and Dream.

Blackie and The Rodeo Kings
Sunday, March 25th at 2 P.M.
NOTE: Tickets purchased for the November 20th show will be honored on March 25th.
These three Canadian musicians, Colin Linden, Stephen
Fearing and Tom Wilson, all well-established artists on their own,
formed B&RK as a tribute to Canadian songwriter Willie P. Bennett.
The group has evolved into one of North America's finest roots-oriented
bands and is now in its second decade, with a Juno award and several
Juno nominations to its credit.
B&RK amazed the Caf audience in 2008 with an
unforgettable performance, reminiscent of The Band and other groups.
B&RK will be playing some of their classic songs as well as songs
from their new CD, KINGS & QUEENS, which features them collaborating
with Rosanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and eleven other
prominent female singers. (www.blackieandtherodeokings.com)
