Johnny Cuomo (Paradiddle Records)

Johnny Cuomo, is a folk-flavored acoustic roots artist, with influences in rock and traditional Irish music. His "Dylanesque" voice follows the tradition of Roger McGuinn and Tom Petty, in capturing the essential emotion of the American musical spirit from its core beginnings to present. From his rock band, Voice of the Turtle, in the 90's, to his immersion into the Irish music scene, up to present, Johnny's musical style has flourished into one that fuses modern folk rock with an innovative Irish twist.
"Storysongs" released in 2008 by Paradiddle Records is his first children's music and storytelling CD. The CD is a compilation of three original folk tales, "The Porcupine, the Peach, and the Pear", "The Wind and the Rain", and "The Girl Who Heard a Rainbow", all with original music written and performed by Johnny. Cuomo, a published author, musician and storyteller, magically unfolds his tales, set to music, on guitar, mandolin, tin whistle and a variety of other instruments, bringing a delightful sensory experience to the young and the young at heart.
Johnny's 2007 release, "American Idle", music is a clever and introspective collection of music that both entertains and begs the listener to look a little deeper into what we might call "the stuff around us."
He can also be found on Paradiddle's 2006 release, Bob Dylan Uncovered as he does his version of Boots of Spanish Leather. On the 2009 release Kinks UnKovered Johnny takes on Ray Davies "Dead End St" revealing his Rock 'n' Roll soul.
As you begin to explore the Cuomo collection, you will hear influences not commonly heard in most performers. His melodic and intricate songs stand on their own. And when you find yourself not listening to, but becoming part of Cuomo's music, you will understand why he continues to entertain, and perhaps enthrall, his many fans.
He has run a traditional Irish session, every Sunday night, at O'Neill's Pub in NYC for the last 4 years.
