Drew Olsen

Drew Olsen is begging us to ask the question is it artistic license, or a bit of arrogance, in a musician calling his CD This is You. The answer comes quickly when you take the time to listen to Olsen’s music. Olsen is saying this is you, I am you and we have all “been in these places” from time to time. Olsen has an ability to take his inner feelings, and experiences, and show you how they are similar to yours thru subtlety simple lyrics and music reflecting on subtlety complex situations and emotions. Or is it subtlety complex music and lyrics reflecting on subtlety simple situation and emotions…? It is clearly both and that is the pleasure of Olsen’s music. It is easily listened too for it’s simple pleasure but there is a more visceral content to both the music and lyrics to let us know there is at least one other person that has “been there too.” And there is also a sense of anticipation that “this will all work out,” underlying Olsen’s songs and we are coaxed to listen to more of Olsen’s music. And then listen again to get that sense that trying, and the experience, might be as good as succeeding…and then trying again might lead to our desire.

Paradiddle Records is pleased to feature Drew Olsen among its many talented and multifaceted artists. Olsen appears on Paradiddle Records Dylan Uncovered with his rendition of “Our Grand Escape.” He breathes into the song a deeper sensibility that desire and reality might not come together. But sometimes the desire, and the dreaming of the potential outcome, might be as good as the real outcome. As mentioned above, Olsen’s original songs, on This is You, are a pleasing collection of intricate and sensitive music and lyrics.
