Jay Scott

Long Island based Singer-Songwriter Jay Scott has been polishing his songs over the past ten years through regular live performances from New York area to California. In 2008, he released his first solo album on Paradiddle Records - Homegrown, which was recorded live before a packed audience at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts "Live in the Lobby" concert series. In July 2010 he released his first studio effort as a solo artist, Life In a Hurry. Bill Herman of Paradiddle, who recorded, mixed and co-produced both albums said, "His experience, and experiences, are shared with a heartfelt pathos and a sensitivity to the predicaments we share in life."
Having grown up playing upright bass and saxophone, Scott attended the Crane School of music in upstate New York for a year before returning home to Long Island. In 2000 he started playing guitar, singing and writing songs. Before long he found himself playing all over Long Island, New York City and a year in California as part of a successful band called Square1. After returning to New York, Square1 evolved into Simple Citizen, which had had some success but parted company in 2004, leaving Scott and drummer Christie DeFeo to begin work on Jay Scott as a solo artist. They resisted the temptation to form a cover band, though the opportunities to perform live on Long Island are much more numerous for cover bands than they are for original musicians. "I have found that when I perform my own songs", Scott said, "There is always at least one person who comes to talk with me after the set and offers enthusiastic comments about the songs and the sound. This has encouraged me to continue on the path as an original artist" "
During this time, Jay fell in love, got married, bought a house and by April 2009 was the father of two children. While living the life of a family man and homeowner, and working two jobs, Jay Scott continues to write songs, rehearse, and perform at times that fit into his schedule. His audience continues to grow, with successful performances at venues from Manhattan to the Hamptons and air play at local radio stations in the northeast. "I have a beautiful family, and after years of hard work, my music career is starting to take off. Life is good!"
His vocal style has been compared to Joe Cocker or Bruce Springsteen and his songs contain elements of folk, rock, blues, country and jazz. "People always ask why kind of music I play", Scott said recently, "and I tell them is a mixture of many different styles. It's acoustic/rock/blues/soul/country/ jazz/jam music! It really is our own sound""
