The Lone Sharks are considered by those who know to be the best "American Roots" band in the NY, NJ, CT area. Their groove is all high octane: Western Swing, Louisiana Boogie, Rockabilly, Honky Tonk and Jump Blues. Their sweaty, gritty, raucous shows combine original music with both well known and obscure music. Gene Casey, fronts The Sharks as lead singer and guitarist and also gives The Sharks’ their own bite by writing their original music. Joe Lauro on bass and Chris Ripley on drum give Elvis the motivation to move his pelvis. Paul Scher delivers the goods on tenor sax and steel guitar.
Their latest release A Lone Shark 6-Pack includes 6 tracks plus "one on the road". 6-Pack opens with a new Gene Casey original, "Sherri on the Ferry", an infectious twangy, Cajun influenced two-stepper. Next, the Sharks move into a shuffle groove with a gritty mix of country and R&B on Roy Orbison's "Uptown", red hot solos by Paul on sax and Gene on guitar. They cover Elvis, and deliver a muscular, roof raising Rockabilly-Gospel take of "We're Gonna Move". Gene provides soulful, meaty vocals accompanied by some great Carl Perkins style pickin’. Lauro’s extra tight bass drives the rhythm and the backing vocals are as sweet as Elvis’ Jordanaires. The Lone Sharks go full throttle with a smokin' version of Bo Diddley's "Dearest Darling.” Everybody breaks a sweat on this one. "Who's Sharing the Moon" is another Casey original and he down shifts into a swaying, slow-shuffle tale of heartache. Next up a tasty helping of Boogie as Chris Ripley steps into the spotlight and takes command of the lead vocals on a delightfully, raucous "Stagger Lee.” The Lone Sharks give us "one on the house", and close the disc with "This Time I'm Swingin.’” This is another Gene Casey original. True to the song’s title, they close the disc with some perfectly executed Swing. It's been said, "When The Lone Sharks play, people dance…like crazy…all night…and so hard and hot, they gotta turn down the thermostat."
