Elliot Murphy Live at The University Cafe December 2009-Part 1 |
From his acclaimed 1973 debut album, Aquashow, to this year's Notes From the Underground, Long Island's Elliott Murphy, singer-songwriter, rock troubadour, indefatigable road warrior (over 100 shows a year!) and prolific author of fiction has once again proven his dedication to his music and his ability to deliver a high-energy show.
Born to a show business family, Murphy followed his Garden City childhood by busking in European cities before he quickly secured a recording contract and turned out several critically-acclaimed albums in the 1970's. His 1973 debut, Aquashow, was a critic's favorite and led to several other heralded albums, including 1977's "Just A Story From America," which featured Phil Collins and the Rolling Stone's Mick Taylor. A move to Paris in 1989 saw Murphy developing a loyal following in Europe and led his American fans to ask when he would return to play the U.S.
Murphy has responded by recently touring in the US with an outstanding guitarist, Olivier Durand, and a batch of new songs from a new album, Notes From the Underground, which stands proudly next to Murphy classics like "Last of the Rock Stars", "Drive All Night" and "Just A Story From America." His Cafe performance on December 6 with his touring band, The Normandy Gentlemen featuring Olivier Durand, earned the group a standing ovation. (www.elliottmurphy.com) |
