Judy Merrick

Cantor Judy Merrick was born in Haifa, Israel and has been playing guitar and performing since the age of 13. After serving in the Israeli army, she went on to study at Tel Aviv University where she earned a degree in theater arts. While living in Israel she directed, choreographed and wrote original plays and musicals for the department of Culture of Tel Aviv and Holon. She taught acting and dance as well After moving the Huntington Bay, NY in 1997, she has performed throughout the New York metro area, leading Shabbat and Holiday services and Israeli celebrations. She has been the musical specialist for the Temple Sinai of Roslyn for the last four years. She has been the Cantor of Temple Beth Shalom of Smithtown since 2006. Cantor Merrick has been attending the "Hava Nashira" music conference for the last three years where she has had the opportunity to meet the most influential composers of Jewish music in the USA. She is committed to bringing the most updated and beautiful music to the Jewish community, along with the classic Israeli music she grew up with. Cantor Judy Merrick blends traditional classic Jewish and Israeli music in her latest release, "Journey", updated by the use of lively percussion and flute. As a singer and cantor it is her goal to touch the soul and spirituality in each of her listeners.
